Nick Atkins FBDO(Hons)CL FBCLA
download biography

Nick Atkins is an optician who has gained business acumen and expertise in sales and marketing during more than 30 years in the optical industry, including 10 years at Bausch & Lomb UK, where he rose to Marketing Director and as General Manager of Advance VisionCare, an independent laser eye surgery clinic.

Prior to launching Positive Impact with Maxine Green, Nick has established a number of companies involved in various aspects of optics. He has run his own consultancy business for the past 8 years, specialising in providing marketing and professional services consultancy to the ophthalmic industries. In the summer of 2002, he acted on a long-standing idea to set up a training and education company and, along with two fellow opticians, set up Proven Track Record (PTR). PTR is the force behind ‘Independents Day’, a symposium dedicated to the independent practitioner, held on or around 4th July each year, and its popularity with both practitioners and industry means it now an established annual event on the optical calendar.

Nick is an accomplished public speaker and key opinion leader in the UK and Ireland and is currently a member of the Ciba Vision Faculty, inputting into its Academy of Eyecare Excellence. He has been involved in and coordinated a number of clinical trials, co-authored posters and continues to write clinical papers and articles, both generic and product specific. Most recently he coordinated the landmark EASE (Enhancing the Approach to Selecting Eyewear) study, which showed that spectacle sales can increase 32% and contact lens fits by 17% by simply using contact lenses in the dispensing process.

In 2007 Nick’s long standing passion for, and work on behalf of, the British Contact Lens Association saw him become President of what is the world’s largest multi-disciplinary contact lens society. He is currently fulfilling a second term on the Board of Directors of Association of British Dispensing Opticians. Finally Nick continues with occasional clinical practice, which helps to ensure his knowledge is up-to-date, providing clients with expert and truly professional service.

Maxine Green FInSMM
download biography

Maxine Green is an award winning sales person who has ‘carried the bag’ and risen through the corporate ranks from sales representative to Commercial Director during 19 highly successful years at Bausch & Lomb UK. In her 5 years as Commercial Director she managed the contact lens business with sales responsibility of over £35M. She has extensive experience in sales management and strategic customer partnerships.  Her career progression within this major blue chip organisation was through consistent delivery of results, performance related promotions, hard work and ambition.

Maxine has led strategy and business planning processes; resulting in above target growth achievements.  She has achieved above plan gross margin improvements, primarily driven by introducing price volume models and implementing product rationalisation. Her focus on medical marketing and technical excellence in the sales process helped B&L move away from price driven negotiations.

Maxine’s sales, organisation and operational skills have been rewarded on numerous occasions including gaining Category Captaincy status in two of the UK’s top four grocery retailers, as well as being awarded the “Best Supplier Award” by ASDA during her time as National Accounts Manager at Bausch & Lomb.

Maxine left B&L in 2007 and has continued her success, providing sales management and marketing consultancy to a number of companies in the contact lens and pharmaceutical sectors, as well as setting up Positive Impact (PI) with Nick Atkins. A key skill being used by current clients is her ability to review, re-structure and overhaul internal sales processes, improving outcomes and delivering above target performance. Her track record of implementing appropriate sales strategies with one contact lens client in particular, has led to more than doubling their turnover, more effective journey cycles and increased sales per account.
